Ring sizing: The perfect fit
Finding the perfect ring is nothing like finding a perfect dress. It’s more like getting the perfect pair of shoes; the ones that don’t hurt your feet. Wearing the wrong ring size can be extremely uncomfortable. Here’s how you can get around the concept of ring sizing.
So, what is the ideal ring?
There is obviously no one-size-fits-all formula for a ring. Some people are quite lucky as their ring size is easily available in jewellery stores. The rest of us need to consider ring sizing tips.
In most countries, ring sizes are measured using either alphabets and or numbers. Plastic or metal ring-like loops have numbers or letters on them which denote each size. One can try on each of these rings to see which one fits the best.
Some people do end up with rings that are too big for their fingers but wear a small bit of rubberband inside to tighten it. But that’s not what you should be doing. You should be able to wear the ring and be absolutely at peace with it.
What if it’s your solitaire engagement ring? What’s the fun in wearing such a special and expensive ring if you can’t wear it properly? You would have to wear it daily and would hardly be taking it off.
Also, a rubber wedge would not just hurt your finger but also look bad if someone admired your ring closely. Hence, it is recommended that you try your best and get a ring that fits well.
Your way through ring sizing
If you visit a jeweller’s store, you can find mock rings of different sizes. These are meant to only measure your ring size. You can also customise the thickness of the ring as per your preference.
Online jewellery stores that sell diamond rings always have ring sizing scales. One can use a piece of string to measure the size of their ring finger and match the length accordingly.
But that’s not the end of the ring sizing process. Our fingers also tend to shrink or bloat a little on a daily basis. It could be the weather, our body temperature, our health condition, medication or even the amount of water consumption. That is perfectly normal, but our goal is to get the ideal ring size.
In such situations, you can measure your ring size at the end of the day when your body temperature is normal. It won’t be wrong to say that few people might actually change two ring sizes throughout the day.
Some people tend to have large knuckles. In such cases, it is better to get a ring that is slightly loose but won’t fall off. It should obviously be snug but also slide over the knuckle without hurting it.
If your ring size falls between two sizes, go for the larger one. As mentioned above, our fingers swell and shrink slightly throughout the day. There is only a slight difference between the two sizes and the priority is comfort.
A smaller size will fit you when your finger is normal but will hurt when your finger swells.
