Is your diamond a real one?

Whether you shop for diamond jewellery online or visit the store to get your latest bling, you want the best. And the best can only be something that you choose for yourself after a lot of thought. And since we‘re talking about your diamond, it means they aren‘t going to be cheap. No one likes being fooled, at least not when you‘re investing some amount of money in it. But if something like that does happen, what are you going to do?

The difference between a real and a fake is knowing what you‘re buying. Perse, there is nothing such as a fake diamond. They are diamond simulants that are legitimate gemstones that look like diamonds. And then there are lab-grown diamonds that are real diamonds but man-made. You can call a diamond fake when you do not get what you have paid for.

Knowing what real diamonds are

We have always known natural diamonds like the ones used on jewellery. Later, other alternatives came along but they haven‘t really replaced the natural ones. In fact, as a consumer, you are free to choose what you want.

However, the problem arises when you don‘t realise what you‘re paying for and what you get. Let‘s break this down and see why. Natural diamonds have a long journey and their rarity makes them quite expensive. Lab-grown diamonds, too, are genuine diamonds. In fact, one of the only differences is that they’re made in a laboratory. Hence, they can be mass-produced and aren‘t as rare or expensive as natural diamonds.

The story is somewhat similar when it comes to diamond simulants like cubic zirconia, moissanite and others. These do not come close to being a natural diamond except for their appearance. The chemical composition and their degree of hardness are different too. While they are proper gemstones, they are not diamonds. And they aren‘t expensive that way.

So, when you are buying a diamond, you naturally want to be careful. Replacing a diamond simulant with a natural diamond makes it a fake. And this is what you should know. Even though retailers and consumers are generally vigilant, there are some stray cases.

How will you identify your diamond?

When you buy a natural diamond, whether, from a store or online, you get a diamond certificate. It comes from a third-party grading laboratory like GIA, IGI, etc. This certificate not only contains a special serial number but also the physical aspects and dimensions of the solitaire. It is what makes your stone unique and you can identify it anywhere. As long as you have this certificate along with the solitaire, you can be sure that your solitaire is yours alone.

The serial number, which is also known as a Unique Identification (UID) number or code is inscribed on the stone‘s girdle. That way, it does not destroy the quality and the brilliance of the diamond in any way.

With the Divine Solitaires mobile application, you can use the UID to digitally access the certificate. By tracking your solitaire, you are ensuring that it is still unique and safe!

Divine Solitaires is India’s first loose solitaire brand that offers its diverse clientele the finest and most exquisitely crafted solitaire diamonds in the world in an organised and transparent manner.
